Beginner Driving Lessons
Motorway Driving Confidence & Safety Course
Course Overview
High-speed motorway driving requires a distinct set of skills, heightened spatial awareness, and quick decision-making. Designed for newly qualified drivers or full license holders looking to overcome motorway anxiety, this specialized course bridges the gap between urban driving and multi-lane, high-speed networks.
Whether you avoid high-speed routes altogether, feel nervous about lane changing, or want to master smart motorways, this hands-on course gives you the knowledge and practical experience to drive safely, calmly, and assertively on any UK motorway network.
Course Key Modules
Slip Roads & Safe Merging: Mastering speed matching on slip roads, identifying target gaps in moving traffic, and seamlessly merging onto main carriageways without causing hesitation.
Lane Discipline & Spatial Awareness: Effective use of all lanes, maintaining safe following distances using the two-second rule, managing blind spots, and eliminating middle-lane hogging habits.
Safe Overtaking at Speed: Executing clean, progressive overtaking manoeuvres, managing speed differentials, and returning safely to left-hand lanes.
Smart Motorways & Variable Speed Limits: Navigating red "X" lane closures, understanding active traffic management, variable speed restrictions, and proper emergency refuge area (ERA) procedures.
Planning, Reading the Road & Fatigue: Anticipating heavy traffic flows far ahead, managing high-speed junction exits, and understanding rest stop planning on long-distance journeys.
Breakdown & Emergency Protocols: Knowing exactly what steps to take if a breakdown occurs on a hard shoulder or active lane to ensure maximum occupant safety.
Course Options & Duration
3-Hour Intensive Session - £160: A single, high-impact practical session covering core motorway entry, lane changing, smart motorway navigation, and exit routines.
6-Hour Complete Module - £315: Spread across two sessions or a full-day trip, covering complex multi-junction routes, night-time or heavy-traffic conditions, and long-distance driving management.
