DofE Minimum Requirement Courses

DofE requires an average commitment of at least 1 hour per week spread continuously over the chosen timescale (6 or 12 months). You cannot condensed all theory into two months and "stop" for DofE purposes - the entire period must form one continuous, unbroken program where theory naturally transitions into practical driving lessons.


Key Execution Rules for eDofE Logging

  1. Single Continuity: The pupil must select "Learning to Drive" as their activity at the start and list their Approved Driving Instructor (Darryl Gray ADI 426902) as the Assessor.

  2. Unbroken Log Entries: The pupil records 1 hour per week for the first 8 weeks (Theory), and then logs 2-hour weekly / bi-weekly practical lessons for the remainder.

  3. Assessor Sign-Off: The Approved Driving Instruction verifies both the theory preparation phase and the practical driving progress in the final eDofE report upon completion.
DofE Skills 3 Months

3-Month Silver Skills Package (12 Hours Total)

 Target Audience: Pupils starting lessons who need a 3-month DofE activity or already have some driving experience.

 Format: 2 hours bi-weekly across 12 weeks.

 Breakdown:

 8 Hours Practical Driving: Vehicle controls, moving off/stopping, basic junction work, and simple maneuvers.

 2 Hours Theory & Hazard Perception: Guided theory practice, Highway Code review, and mock hazard perception tests.

 2 Hours Basic Vehicle Care: Under-the-hood checks (oil, coolant, screenwash), tire safety, changing light bulbs, and fluid maintenance.

6-Month Silver Direct / Gold Package (24 Hours Total)

 Target Audience: Silver Direct or Gold candidates taking a steady 6-month timescale.

 Format: 2 hours bi-weekly across 24 weeks.

 Breakdown:

 16 Hours Practical Driving: Comprehensive coverage of core driving skills, roundabouts, maneuvers, and independent driving.

 4 Hours Theory & Test Preparation: Structured Highway Code study, sign recognition, and mock theory tests.

 4 Hours Vehicle Maintenance & Road Safety: Weekly routine safety checks, basic breakdown preparation, wheel changing procedure, and fuel/EV charge point handling.

 Target Audience: Gold Direct candidates building long-term competence over a full year.

 Format: 2 hours bi-weekly across 48 weeks.

 36 Hours Practical Driving: Complete DVSA syllabus from foundation controls through to test standard.

 6 Hours Theory & Roadcraft: Advanced theory, eco-driving, hazard perception analysis, and route planning.

 6 Hours Technical & Maintenance Modules: Deep dive into vehicle mechanics, seasonal driving prep (winter/summer care), tire maintenance, and post-test Pass Plus / motorway preview theory.
